When I bring my computer to you, what do I need to bring?
Does Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc come built into Microsoft Windows? I am thinking of purchasing a new laptop but wondered which models actually come with the above already on it?
Do you have a call out charge?
You say your fees for "Standard Repairs" is £25, but what about if the repair takes more than a few hours, or even a day?
Do you come out to my home or do we have to bring the computer to you? If you do come out, do you charge extra?
What is data recovery, data copying, data destruction and why are they different?
If I buy a new component elsewhere, will you fit it for me?
If you repair my computer or reinstall it back to it`s original state, does it have any sort of guarantee?
What is Malware and why should I be concerned about it?
Why should I choose you?
When I bring my computer to you, what do I need to bring?
You need to bring the machine itself (of course - sorry). You should also bring any disks that came with it, but not additional software that you have since installed, such as games etc.
There is no need to bring any power cables, your monitor, keyboard, mouse or any other plug in device, unless you or we, suspect one of them may be faulty.
In the event there is a need to return your computer to the factory default settings, or to the state it was in when you first purchased it, we will only require those disks that were originally supplied with it, together with your passwords and uernames if you have any. Although we have various means of removing or working around such matters, sometimes it is simpler and easier to just input them where possible.

Afraid not. The above components make up the Microsoft Office Suite and is sold separately from Windows itself. You may normally find a "trial" version of MS Office installed on your new computer (desktops and laptops). There is a cheaper alternative to MS Office, "Open Office" for which there is a link on our "Internet Links" page, or alternatively you can just visit www.openoffice.org

Do you have a call out charge?
Yes, we charge £10.00 minimum and then £1.00 extra per mile to visit your home or office, which is the cost of our "Quick Fix" service. This is based upon you being situated within a ten miles radius of our base, where we charge £10.00 per callout. Every mile over this you will be charged an additional £1.00. Provided the fault can be fixed within 30 minutes and no new parts are required, that`s all you have to pay.
In cases where more time is required, we will bring your computer back to our workshops and on completion, return it to where it was taken from, connect it to the internet and one other item such as a printer. The initial £10.00 or more callout fee will then be added to the "Standard Fix" fee, not including any required new parts.
This upgrade in service will also include free backup of your personal documents, free malicious software check and free hardware diagnostics check. All at no extra cost! Please see our "Services and Prices" section for full details.

Do you come out to my home or do we have to bring the computer to you? If you do come out, do you charge extra?
Yes, we do come out to either your home or business, should you require it. We now charge £10.00 for up to ten miles, plus £1.00 extra per mile over this, to come to your home or office and will perform a "Quick Fix" on your computer there and then if possible. Any new parts that are required are charged in addition. If it is likely that the repair will take longer than 30 minutes, then we will, at your request, bring the computer back to our workshop where the "standard Fix" will apply. This will be charged at £25.00 plus the initial callout fee. However, your computer will be returned to where it was collected from and connected to the existing internet connection and one other device such as a printer. We also perform a number of free scans and back up your personal data at no extra cost. (Please see our "Services and Prices" tab for full details.

What is data recovery, data copying, data destruction and why are they different?
Put simply, data recovery is an involved, skilful process, to get back accidently deleted or lost personal files, such as your personal documents, music, photographs, spreadsheets, word processor files, databases, etc, that you can no longer access or recover for yourself, caused by either accidental deletion, hard disk or other drive or device errors, malicious acts, such as a virus, trojan horse or someone trying to steal your identity or banking details etc. Data copying is a simple solution involving the safe copying of all your personal documents or data, as highlighted above and automatically carried out by us before we start any work on your computer. On completion of the work, we will put your data back onto your computer, where we found it. Data destruction is a technique we use to completely destroy all of your personal data, as above, that is on your computer. Merely deleting it and emptying the recycle bin is not enough. This should always be done if you are upgrading and replacing your current hard drive, or other storage media, or scrapping your current computer or selling it on. It prevents anyone else from recovering and accessing your data and stops them using it for identity theft etc.

What is Malware and why should I be concerned about it?
Malware is an abbreviation of "Malicious software," it covers all forms as such, from computer viruses, adware, spyware and more recently Rootkits, trojan horses and bots. Without going into too many technical terms, we all need to keep our computers free from these little nasties. Their effects range from a Virus, that can shut down your computer, hide your icons, delete your personal documents (music, pictures etc,) to robots that take over your computer and use it to distribute the same types of malicious software to other people and their computers.
Computer spamming, loosly describes all the pop-up junk that comes through our email boxes every day. Spammers are paid to distribute all this junk in high volumes to all computers that they can. Trojan Horses are a piece of software that allow others to connect to your computer, use it for spamming, downloading adware, spyware - where they can monitor your internet useage and target you with pop-ups, or simply log the keyboard strokes you make, to record your internet banking details or steal your passwords and personal identity.
Avoiding "peer to peer" download sites (for free music, images etc,) Some online gaming sites and especially "Porn" sites, will certainly help avaoid your computer becoming infected, but at the same time, a quality Firewall and anti-virus software will certainly help to stop malware too. Unfortunately, many people don`t appreciate that if they instruct the firewall to allow an internet connection to a dubious website, then it won`t be able to stop them becoming infected. If your firewall advises something is wrong, don`t ignore it.

Why should I choose you?
We have been sorting out people`s problem computers since the mid 90`s with little complaint. We have always been pleased with our dedication to the individual computer brought into our care and always gone the "extra mile" to ensure we have saved everyone`s personal data as a matter of course and at no extra cost, always scanned the machine for malicious software and failing hardware, again at no extra cost to the client.
We always warranty our repairs, and new computers as a matter of course and just for further peace of mind, we have a "No fix - no fee" policy, just in case.
